Disaster Relief Efforts - Flood in Jakarta |

This article will follow up upon Jakarta Flood and the Relief Efforts related to the Jakarta Flood conducted by IFGF GISI Cares.
Without warning, Jakarta was hit with continuous heavy downpour of rain for days starting in early 2nd of February. This kept water levels high all throughout the city for almost a week. More than 75% of Jakarta was covered with water that even caused several rescuing posts to be underwater. This is the biggest flood in Jakarta has ever happened in these past 10 years. At least 50 people have died, and 350.000 of them refugees now. Jakarta today is just recovering slowly from the disaster, but electricity, road blocks, hunger and diseases are the main problems still. Moreover, a lot people are going through mental depression because they have lost their homes, treasured belongings, and in some cases the lives of their family members.
Unfortunately, our IFGF GISI Keluarga Allah and Headquarters office in
Jakarta was also covered with flood waters (more than 1m high), Praise
God that there has been no victims. However, the damage that has been
done to our office as well as the community surrounding it is
incredible. Fatal damage was
incurred in our office’s furniture, building, sound system, and other
machines, not to mention some of the data files that have been stored
in hard copy in our office. Because of this, we are temporarily
relocating ourselves to the WORLD HARVEST CENTER in Lippo Karawaci.
Renovations to the office and surrounding community definitely need to
begin as soon as flood water levels go down. Some of the help that is
very much needed currently includes:
- For the community (Estimated Rp 1 billion’s worth – US $ 100,000) … through IFGF GISI Cares (IFGF GISI PEDULI)
- Medical services and supplies for 6,000 people of the
15,000 people that were affected by the flood which live around IFGF
GISI office.
- Financial support for 100 families who affected by the flood
- For
the IFGF GISI Keluarga Allah and Headquarters’ office (total estimated
Rp. 1 billion’s worth – US$ 100,000): For new furniture (tables,
chairs, cabinets), new electronic support, building renovation, sound
system.
